Why does feeding less grain/soy, fruits, veggies, greens and other wet foods improve a rabbits digestive health more than feeding more hay?

Reducing the amount of greens and other ‘wet’ foods your rabbit eats is more effective at improving digestive health! It is even more effective than feeding more hay.

Why? because even if there is ample amounts of hay eaten, bad bacteria can grow fast on the ‘wet’ foods your rabbit eats (like greens and veggies) and grain/soy thereby causing digestive problems. These bacteria disrupt the healthy bacteria in the ceacum and cause problems with the formation of cecotropes.

Uneaten cecotropes are a warning sign that this is happening.
